Reach for the dead

The new Boards of Canada album Tomorrow’s Harvest is being transmitted live tomorrow at 9pm UK time . I cannot wait! Lets hope the site doesn’t crash (a la MBV… festival tickets and every other thing like this in the world..). The album is being released officially June 10th. I’ve waited patiently for this, they are my favourite electronic artists of all time. Maybe I will see them live sometime…..

Here is one of my favourite Boards of Canada songs, June 9th. It is also the date of my birthday so I think it was meant to be.

Magic Music Monday #8

1. Peace – Follow Baby
We listen to Radio 6 constantly at work (also Kerrang a lot, lets not remind ourselves of that though) and this song gets played a lot at the moment. I like it a lot though! It’s pretty sexy.

2. Buke and Gase – Hiccup
OMG this song is too good! It’s from the new Buke and Gase record ‘General Dome’ (which is also incredible). Can’t wait to see them again in April. Saw them at ATP before Christmas and they were amazing live!

3. Hudson Mohawke – Thunder Bay
Listen to this song with lots of bass. It gets great when the heavy bits come in.

4. My Bloody Valentine – Only Tomorrow
I saw MBV for the third time last week at the Hammersmith Apollo, it was one of the best gigs ever! The sound wasn’t the best it could have been at times, and it wasn’t as loud as the last times I saw them, but in a way that was better! They played a good setlist with lots of classics, and 3 tracks off the new album. They played this one, which is one of my favourites. It was definitely the best part of the gig for me! 1.35 is where it gets insanely beautiful…

5. Nosaj Thing – Fog
Great track! Saw him last week too at Village Underground. Though much prefer ‘Drift’ to his new album to be honest.. He played a couple off it so that was good. He also dropped a sick Burial tune… and I fell asleep standing up… It was a work night…

Brighton & Damo Suzuki with added cats.

brightonI went to see Damo Suzuki at Green Door Store in Brighton this weekend. The gig was INCREDIBLE. One of the best shows I have been to in a while. The venue had old oil projectors which were creating incredible visuals on the walls of the venue which I have never seen before! I tried to find one on ebay but they seem to be very expensive and hard to get hold of.

Damo Suzuki played with a band consisting of all the support bands, I have no idea if they had practiced beforehand but it was so so good! It was like a 1 and a half hour jam! At times I felt like I was witnessing Can live… There was a lot of good synth going on and lots of good drumming. The bassist was playing bass with a bow!
Later on after many beers I met Sami and Madina’s cats Gizmo and Connan and we listened to good records until 2am.

1. Royksopp – The Drug
My god I am obsessed with this song and as I just also discovered, the official video is fucking incredible!

2. Romare – The Blues (It Began in Africa)
This tune will wake you up in a morning and get you going..

3. Dälek – Bricks Crumble
I love Dalek’s dark combination of hip hop and shoe-gaze. I think they’re a pretty ONE OF A KIND BAND.

4. Add N To x – Adding N To X
In my head I always see Add N to X as a band who are robot cardboard box characters who jump around in a universe full of shapes made from primary colours.

5. Cibo Matto – Sugar Water
I definitely need a bit of sugar water today. And some glitter. And some birthday cake. And some brightly coloured plastic animals would be good.

Magic Music Monday #6

1. Toro Y Moi – Harm in Change
I’ve obsessively listened to this song this week. In my bedroom, while eating lunch, whilst walking home from work, and even took my ipad into the bathroom so I could listen to it in the bath. It’s THAT good I risked death by water to my ipad.

2. My Bloody Valentine – Only Tomorrow
The new My Bloody Valentine is all it was ever going to be, and more! This is one of my favourites from the record. It’s fucking incredible! As my friend Bryony put it “it sounds like it’s always existed.”

3. Phoenix – 1901
Great fun happy tune.

4. My Bloody Valentine – In Another Way
Another favourite from the new record. MBV is kind of a big deal which is why they feature twice this week!

5. Tomahawk – I.O.U
From the new Tomahawk album which is so bloody good! It has reminded me of my undying love for Mike Patton. This is so far my favourite from the album. I love the album art too.

I.O.U a love song, for everything I done wrong

Stuff i’ve been digging this week.

I was thinking, what happened to Cory Kennedy? She’s one year younger than me, and when I was doing loads of underage drinking and getting wasted, so was she. She was this popular L.A kid who’s photo was everywhere on the internet and she dressed pretty cool and had good hair. Turns out she got addicted to the booze and it went a bit tits up. She still dresses nice though.

Mike Patton! I’m getting OBSESSED again. Love this old interview of Fantomas! Where are the single girls at Fantomas gigs?! Anyway the new Tomahawk album is incredible, which has spurred this on. Listen to it on Spotify.

This Richard Nicoll for Fred Perry dress. It’s from a 2011 collection but the colours are perfect. It’s like a delicious mint ice cream…

Mint ice cream credit.

1. Pick A Piper – All Her Colours (feat. John Schmersal)
This tune is by the drummer from Caribou’s live band and John who also plays guitar for Caribou live (but more importantly was in Enon – the best band in the world). This song is mega good, my favourite song of 2013 so far, and maybe will be my favourite of the whole year?! The vocals go perfectly with the track.

2. Four Tet – Lion – Jamie xx Remix
Great remix. 7 minutes of pretty bass drops.

3. M.I.A – Bad Girls
Dancing in your bedroom music.

4. Major Lazer fear Amber (of Dirty Projectors)
Dirty Projectors are amazing, and so is Major Lazer, quite an unlikely combination for a song, but works so well. Such a good pop song.

5. St Vincent – Surgeon
My favourite St Vincent song. I like the lyrics, they’re pretty weird. Asking a surgeon to come cut you open. It sounds weirdly satisfying.
