Feels Like Home

I am a huge homemaker. I would probably spend all day in my flat if I could (probs best I don’t though..). I love being alone to make my own fun and can spend all day drawing, cooking and reading tons of blogs, oh and napping… ooops. I’m not massively anti-social though – I promise.

Ugg Australia got in touch and asked me for some tips on how to start illustrating from home (as well as a couple of other bloggers), to give a little inspiration for their customers during their Feels Like Home campaign. You can check out the illustration tips I gave them on their site here, as well as the other blogger’s ideas for some fun projects this winter.

When the weather is worse, what are you going to be getting up to?

Yoshitomo Nara – Greetings from a Place in My Heart

room
drawing_naraentranceYoshitomo Nara has been one of my favourite artists for a long time. I love his childlike girls and boys looking wistful, smoking cigarettes or just being generally sassy. And lets not forget his dogs with their cheeky expressions. He’s been a huge inspiration for me over the years but I don’t think until this exhibition I’d actually seen any of his work IRL! From October 3rd till 7th December this incredible exhibition is on at the Dairy Art Centre. Not massively promoted, I thankfully heard about it in time on Twitter. I was blown away when I got there and saw the vast quantity of work on show! There are over 200 pieces on display.

Soviet Space Dogs – Unknown heroes

I found this newly released book yesterday in the Wellcome Collection bookshop and was so excited! As you probably are aware – I am a rather large canine fan. The book is a fully illustrated affair, dedicated to the dogs involved in the Soviet Space Programme in the 50s and 60s. It’s written by Olesya Turkina – a researcher at the State Russian University.

Scientists in Russia spent years in secret, training stray dogs from the streets of Moscow to fly up to the sky in rockets – this book tells the historical ‘tail’…

Hyper Japan 2014 – Earls Court London

palsnacks
At the weekend me and my friend Lorna went to Hyper Japan at Earls Court. The event is a giant exhibition/convention celebrating Japanese culture, there were so many good snacks to buy and a lot of cute stuff! A lot of people had put mega effort into their outfits too which was fun to see, there was also a lot of delicious Japanese food.

My work space/desk! – A peek into my home.

mydesk
I love seeing other people’s work areas/desks/studios/bedrooms, so here are some photos of mine. I was asked to do this a few weeks ago for a friends website, and only got round to it so thought I’d post them here too!
I don’t have a studio or a spare room to work in (London rent is already bloody enough) so use half my bedroom as a working area for my illustration work/drawing/photoshop marathons. I LOVE toys.. and do collect them. I have a few vintage Fisher Price wheeled animals and lots of Lapin & Me toys as I’ve drawn them quite a lot for the shop in the past year. pens
light kewpie
I found this Kewpie in a bin on Kingsland Road! Haha, I did have to wash it a lot, god only knows what it was covered in… The silver lamp above is Ikea and I love it.

I do try and change the pictures here up a bit, I don’t tend to put much illustration up as I prefer photos, paintings or bits of design (doing illustration kind of makes you sick of looking at other illustration and I also think it’s best if you don’t!). But I do have some vintage illustration bits up, alongside two recent artists Nathalie Lete and Yoshitomo Nara because they are two of my all time favourites. Also I’ve got a few bits of Ana Albero’s work stuck up, an illustrator from Berlin who’s work I really like.pink
A cute little pen I got from Berlin & below some MT tapes. (I LOVE STATIONARY, especially Japanese!). tape

So there we go, where I spend quite a bit of time! I hope you liked this sneaky peek of my flat!
